Seeing people smile and knowing you made something that made them happy. It’s our performance and skills that get to distract people from their day to day, escape, and have a drink! I’m a musician and when I make a drink all of that same performance comes into play and having someone watch and then enjoy has that same satisfaction. To see someone’s face light up after sipping their first gin drink and being surprised that they don’t just like it but truly enjoy it, well that’s the reason!
What is your favorite drink to make and why?A rum old fashioned. Everyone loves and old fashioned and I think rum gets a bad rep as a sticky sweet spirit when it holds all of the beauty of the most elegant whiskies. Blend an aged rum, with an unctuous white rum and then something with a touch of funk rounded out with chocolate bitters. We might be able to change the world!! Or at least someone’s perspective and that’s a win!
What would you do with the $20,000?Further my education and opportunity for education is the team around me. We can never stop learning. Trends change, laws adapt, people are constantly creating and we as leaders need to stay in tune and in touch with the how’s and whys. How can pinot noir be so versatile? Why can cognac play so beautifully in cocktails? Understanding how it is made makes us as bartenders better at using it, and therefore better at explaining it to guests and staff alike!
