Learn MoreCommunity. There is a kinship that connects the people in this industry. My favorite things to do when I travel is to talk with a bartender & ask Who I should go see. I make a point of asking for them & telling them who sent me. It sends to places I would have never known about, & I meet wonderful people. My best friends are people I've met through this industry.
What is your favorite drink to make and why?The RCC Smoked Old Fashion. A classic that is simple, but simplicity should not be confused with ease. Nuance is what makes craft. Torching a plank on the bar top covering it with the glass to smoke. Stirring a mix of vanilla simple, amaro & Rye brakes the classic build & stands apart. Carving a perfectly clear ice cube from a block. Garnished with an expressed orange peel. The presentation lets everyone know they are getting a great drink, made by a skilled professional.
What would you do with the $20,000?I want to make a traveling bartending show. I talk about what makes a place unique. But more so I want to talk to the people who work there, why they make the bar a great place. I want to tell stories of people who are often overlooked. Highlight what makes them great professionals. Give back to the industry. The money would help fund shooting a pilot.
