Connect What is your favorite thing about being a bartender?

As a bartender, my favorite thing is the connection I get to make with people. Each shift is a chance to hear unique stories, share laughs, and create a warm atmosphere. I love being part of celebrations and little moments that brighten someone's day. Crafting cocktails is an art, but it's the interactions that truly bring the job to life. There’s something special about being a friendly face in someone’s evening, making them feel at home, even if it’s just for a little while.

What is your favorite drink to make and why?

My favorite drink to make is an Old Fashioned. It’s a classic that really showcases the craft of bartending. The process of muddling sugar with bitters, adding a good quality whiskey, and finishing it with a twist of orange peel feels like an art form. Each one is a little different, allowing me to tailor it to the customer’s taste. Plus, the simplicity of the drink always impresses. It’s satisfying to see someone enjoy a well made Old Fashioned. It’s like crafting a piece of history.

What would you do with the $20,000?

I’m a former United States Marine Corps Veteran, who is partially on disability. I’m also a father of 4 young men who are growing up way too fast. If I were the winner of the $20,000 prize, I would use that money to create some special memories with my family. Because before I know it, they will be all grown up and living life’s of their own. It would be a chance to make a part of their childhood something more spectacular that than I’ve previously been able to.
