My favorite thing about being a bartender is personal connections at the bar top. Being able to bond with a guest, if only for a brief moment; over shared interest or the beautiful drink I’ve crafted for them. The bar is about many things, but the best of those things is community. Nothing says community and love, like a fresh cocktail, a handshake and some laughs.
What is your favorite drink to make and why?My favorite drink to make… is the next one! Continued patronage is a bartenders best friend, and several of my best friends have come as a result. In all seriousness though, nothing beats the refreshment of a classic Mai Tai. Sweet, nutty, complex when done right. The Mai Tai is a cocktail that’s had much scrutiny over the decades, but when done the way trader Vic intended; you know you’ll be mixing up a few for your guests!
What would you do with the $20,000?If I were to be crowned Bar Boss, I would take the money and put it towards the opening of my own bar. Owning and operating my own establishment has been a dream of mine for several years. A place to harness the art and community that 13 years in hospitality has taught me is very important to me. Something to be proud of, to create a space that people can feel safe and want to be themselves. While no doubt enjoying the amazing cocktails I will always strive to put out.
