I come from a creative/performance background, working in both the theater and film industries. Bartending is a very fulfilling job, because not only does it allow me to flex my creativity, but there is also a performance aspect to it. Watching a good bartender is engaging, even thrilling. As a bartender you get to create something for someone and get immediate feedback. There is also a social element to it. I struggle to think of another job that draws on so many different skills at once.
What is your favorite drink to make and why?My favorite drink to make has to be the Sazerac. Not only is it a legendary drink, but I think it's perfect. It's extremely spirit forward while still being balanced. It's historic, striking and delicious ... everything that a cocktail should be. My mentor taught me early on, that the Sazerac should intoxicate the guest on the nose before it ever reaches their palate. I like to make my own Absinthe and play with flamed citrus oils to create that intoxicating experience.
What would you do with the $20,000?I would help my wife and I get out of debt and put the rest in savings to hopefully buy a house one day for our family.
