My favorite thing about being a bartender is the relationships that I can build daily with my guests and my bar team. I have the world's largest collection of American Whiskeys as my backdrop—over 2,200 unique expressions. Although most patrons visit my establishment for the huge wall of whiskeys, they return because of the people they meet and the experiences they have with me and our team. I love working in the service industry because I can deliver unmatched hospitality.
What is your favorite drink to make and why?My favorite drink to make is a traditional sour but with a twist. Blending components of spirit, sugar, and citrus or juice gives me a lot of creative freedom to design a drink that's perfect for any season and for any palette. Substituting an interesting amaro, liqueur, or bitters in a sour cocktail build can radically change the way a drink makes you feel. The use of egg white can take a drink from 'just okay' to delightful, and infused syrups or spirits will make a familiar build feel exotic.
What would you do with the $20,000?If I were awarded the $20,000, I would use the funds to invest in myself and my future in the form of savings, investments, and travel. Money comes either very quickly or very slowly in the service industry, depending on the environment and the season. $20,000 would allow me to plan even better for the goals that I have set for myself as a single-earner homeowner and avid traveler. I would invest in my cultural experiences, making trips to places that help me grow as a bartender and as a person.
